The tomb was commissioned by Humayun’s first wife Bega Begum (Hajji Begum) and designed by Mirak Mirza Ghiyath, a Persian architect. It was the first garden-tomb on the Indian subcontinent, thus lending inspiration to the famed Taj Mahal. It may not be as big or as fancy as that other famous garden tomb in India, but what a lot of people don’t realize is that without it, we probably wouldn’t have a Taj Mahal.
